Scotland v Ireland Cancelled

Email Subject: Scot v Ireland

Hi June,

Unfortunately received an email from Stewart Hamill today saying that they cannot field a team for the Scotland v Ireland game on 6th Nov so they would have to cancel the fixture.
Obviously we (Scot) are very disappointed with this especially since we had enough names for 8 rinks.
Could you please drop an email to all clubs informing them of the cancellation and the reason why.
We hope to rearrange for a later date.

GA Open 2016

Well done to Howie, Graham, Ethel and Tony representing  Monte Mar and coming 3rd in our Gran Alacant Open Mixed Rinks 2016. They are pictured below with our Club Captain Ronnie Cairns.

Chicken Run

chicken-runOur 1st “Chicken Run” this year took place on Sunday 25th September 2016. It turned out to be a great success on the day and was very much enjoyed by everyone involved. Well done to the organisers Val Hignett, Jan Gatward & Joan Harding. We will be holding more “Chicken Runs” in future on the last Sunday of each month. The winners of the chickens were Steph Matheson and John Hunt with Jan Soars and David Thomas taking home the eggs (I like mine fried, sunny side up).

Keith Vertigen

Sadly, on the morning of September 17th, Keith Vertigen lost his battle with cancer. Keith and Jan returned to Clacton in the UK a few years ago due to ill health. Many of you will remember Keith, who was a member at El Cid Bowls Club for many years. He was an active member of the club and held both Captain and President positions on the committee. Keith and his wife Jan entered many competitions up and down the Costa Blanca, and he was well know for liking a´’heavy wood’. Despite his limited sight, he could still fire off a wood from the head with amazing accuracy. Keith will be sadly missed by all who new him. Our sincere condolences to his family, friends and El Cid BC.
