Members of Monte Mar along with some friends from Vistabella and La Marina travelled down to La Posada and Saydo Bowls Clubs situated inland from Malaga. We had a great three days in the company of both teams and made some new friends whilst there. Both La Posada and Saydo have 4 rinks so we played morning and afternoon. Both Clubs have an excellent set up. We at Monte Mar are looking forward to La Posada visiting us in the near future.
We then moved on to Indalo for 2 days to play in the Challenge Cup and meet up with some friends. Unfortunately the wheels fell off and we lost the cup.
Once again thank you all for a great 5 Days.
Ronnie Cairns, Club Captain.
Photos from this trip are now on the website.
Judy’s boys, Charlie, Jamie, Mark and myself have been completely overwhelmed by all the cards, emails and messages of condolence which have come from the club members. It just goes to show not only how popular she was, but also what a superb club spirit exists. We are also appreciative for your tributes paid last Thursday at the roll up.
I hope to come out to Spain sometime this summer along with some of the family and I hope to see as many of you as possible.
Our first Belfry Day Competition was held on Thursday 13th April and turned out to be a great success. This was a Drawn Mixed Trips Comp where twelve teams played a one hour game on three different rinks throughout the day.The winners were the team that scored the most shots by the end of the three games. The day was then rounded off with an excellent evening meal and a few drinks at the Belfry Carvery. Well done to the winning team of Sue Bounds, June Young and David Melville pictured below receiving their prize (a Belfry meal voucher) from Paul, owner of the Belfry.
The ladies pairs got through to the second round and then lost ,the men’s singles lost on the first round. Men’s pairs lost in the semi finals to the team that went on to win that discipline. The mixed trips lost the finals against Finca Guila the team was Brian Zelin, Sue Kemp & Danny King. The mixed rinks got to the finals which was played on Monday 24th. The Monte Mar team consisted of Roy Mercer, Jan Gatward, Geraldine & Gordon Fisher. The opposition was from San Louis, Steve Simmons, Keith Jones, Sabrina and Russell Marks. Monte Mar walked on water that day and kept San Louis off the score board until the tenth end, San Louis conceded the game after 16 ends at the score being 21 to M M to 11 to S L.
We had a good eight days of bowling, the weather was kind to us some days a bit chilly but dry. A very enjoyable and successful week for Monte Mar.
Pictured below are the Monte Mar team winners of the Mixed Rinks.

I know many of you will not be able to attend and we appreciate all your condolences and good wishes. Please raise a glass to Judy at the appropriate time.
Thank you all,
I am very sorry to have to report that Judy passed away early yesterday morning (26th). Her
passing was very peaceful with her family at her side. Our thoughts are with Stan and family at this very sad time. Deepest condolences from all your friends at Monte Mar Bowls Club.
I am afraid Judy,s condition has worsened. They were not able to fit a stent, which was our best hope, as the tumour had spread too much. She has now been transferred to St Johns Hospice in Moggerhanger. She is comfortable and has accepted the inevitable with great strength of character. The boys have been absolutely great and wonderful support both to their mum and to me. Sorry the news is not better.
Love to all,
